I just saw a commercial on TV about men teaching young boys that violence towards women is wrong, and it got me thinking.. Why did that ridiculous idea become so widespread? How is violence towards women somehow worse than violence towards men? Violence of ANY kind is bad, but it doesn’t somehow become worse just because the victim is female and the perpetrator is male. That double standard REALLY pisses me off.

One’s a bigger problem than the other, for some reason.

Depends. In some ways, male violence against males is pretty damn bad!
After all, most fights and PROBABLY most murders are male/male.

Violence against women is known to mostly mean sexually-biased violence and domestic violence. in is exceedingly a man against woman problem.

umm.. yeah.. that’s kinda what I said. I’ve no idea WHAT that reason is though. At least not in this day and age. Men and women are supposed to be equal in all things. The bad needs to go along with the good.

Crap, I can’t remember the source but I’ve read at least one study that concluded the percentage of men who had suffered domestic abuse wasn’t much lower than the percentage of women.
When it comes to domestic abuse, size really does not matter. The victim must be unwilling to call the cops or ask for help, willing to forgive the abuser, and unwilling to fight back. My current therapist has mentioned the dificulty in getting victims to leave the relationship, or press charges. The abuser can be smaller and weaker, the victim is unwilling to fight back.

I never understood this double standard either. I had many fights with my sister growing up. She had a gut punch that would literally take your breath away. While punching Kate Moss is clearly wrong, a man who attempts to punch Angelina Jolie shall find himself spitting out teeth.
